Resetting an Active Anchor

Active Anchor settings

Release function

An Active anchor has four release settings and a lock position that will not release.

More than likely, rock is where the ability to release an anchor is needed most. As a result, the release function is most easily triggered on rocky ground, where the fluke tips are the only part of the anchor holding onto a crevice or ledge. This is because most of the load is focused on the fluke tips, and a lot more torque is applied to the pivot mechanism by the rode.

Conversely, the lighter settings do not greatly reduce the holding power of the anchor in sand, mud, or shale if you have a reasonably long rode out. It simply makes it easier to trigger the release function as you lift directly over the anchor point.

This is because the flukes are held in a relatively static position in soft ground, which pushes the flukes backward toward the rear of the anchor, keeping the pivot mechanism in its normal anchoring position.

Resetting an Active Anchor

To reset the anchor from the release position;

1. Turn the flukes as far away from the shank as possible and place the anchor on a flat surface.

2. Using the palm of one hand push down on the pivot area of the anchor. This will allow you to move the collar down the shank toward the "U".

3. Pick the anchor up and place it down with the flukes in their normal position.

4. Put the end of the reset tool provided into the gap between the pivot links and lever the fluke axle outward. Continue to push the tool over to relax the shank spring.

5. With your other hand slide the collar back to your chosen setting and release the reset tool.

Maintenance

Applying a lanolin-based oil or grease lubricant to all the pivot points of an Active Anchor on a regular basis, or before you need to use the anchor, is best practice. This will ensure that the release function works smoothly and reliably.
