Shaun Wieffering - DF400 & DF500 Review

The DF500 has been excellent on sand and weed in my testing. It has held well, corrected itself when needed and made anchoring far more straightforward when conditions or bottom terrain are not perfect.

For anyone who spends time fishing, drifting over spots, stopping for a swim or anchoring up for a bite, the ability to drop the DF500 and get settled quickly is a huge advantage. You are not wasting time second-guessing whether the anchor has grabbed properly or doing multiple attempts before you can relax.

What I have liked most:

- Strong performance on sand and weed

- Auto-correcting technology adds real peace of mind

- Easy “drop and go” operation

- Less time spent resetting an anchor

- Makes anchoring simpler when conditions are changing

Active Anchor DF400 Review

I have mainly used the DF400 as a stern anchor, and it has performed really well on sand. It is simple: drop it, leave it, and let the system handle the correction. Knowing it can auto-correct is a complete game changer for me, particularly when using it at the back of the boat to control position.

I have used it up north in Western Australia and on multiple trips around Rottnest Island, and it has made anchoring feel easy. It is light, straightforward to deploy and takes away much of the usual hassle that comes with anchoring in unfamiliar locations.

The multi-terrain settings are what I am especially looking forward to testing further. Once I start anchoring on reef more regularly, the ability for the DF400 to automatically release when required should make it an even more versatile setup.

What has stood out:

- Great on sand as a stern-anchor solution

- Lightweight and easy to use

- Drop it and leave it operation

- Auto-correction is a major confidence feature

- Used successfully in northern WA and around Rottnest

- Multi-terrain modes should be a major advantage for reef anchoring

Overall Verdict

Both units have made anchoring quicker, easier and far less stressful. The DF500 has impressed me on sand and weed as a primary anchor, while the DF400 has been a reliable and simple stern-anchor option on sand.
